A small annoyance.

Don't you hate it when something you love becomes discontinued? I know I surely do. How many times has it happened to you? Quite a bit? I know it has for me. But what I'm really struggling with, is the fact that the world is trying to rid itself of the scent vanilla and everything to do with it.

Now vanilla is my favourite scent above anything else, so I crave it and want it to be in and around me whenever possible. I'm always looking for the perfect vanilla scent, one that isn't too sweet and sickly, or that doesn't even smell like vanilla at all (which there is quite a few of those). There are very few perfumes out of the millions made (which I don't really have time to smell all of them…), that have a solid vanilla as the base note so I tend to look for other things that smell like vanilla.

Lets take a massive trip down memory lane shall we? It all started when I was younger (about 10, this is how far back, eg. my whole life, that I have loved vanilla, just so you know how obsessed I am with it...), I don't know if you guys will remember, but the brand Impulse had a body spray called Vanilla Kisses. Oh my god! Best scent ever. Its been years and I'm still crying about it lol. I had a few bottles of this heavenly scent before it got discontinued. To this day, I have not found a better vanilla scent than Vanilla Kisses. It has always been my favourite. So anyway, my first vanilla experience had been cancelled! Super annoyed, but fortunately they had other nice scents to keep me going…

So as time when on, I had somewhat forgotten about it (as much as you can when something affects you this deeply haha), many years later I came across a MAC fragrance. This was when I first got obsessed with MAC and moved to Australia that I discovered it. It was Fragrance II (if you can even remember those!), which was a warm vanilla. Well that got discontinued a few years afterwards too (I actually still have an empty bottle I just can't part with!). So yay, I'm already feeling like Ive got a winning scent huh? (although to be fair MAC axed basically the whole range).

Life goes on as it does and while still searching for years to find that delicious scent I discovered Organix Vanilla Silk shampoo and conditioner as of last year. OMG! This stuff smells vanilla alright, like you're making a goddamn cake on your head. It seriously, not even kidding, is orgasm worthy. Seriously, cake.on.your.head!!! Best vanilla scent ever (minus vanilla kisses of course). So here I am, loving washing my hair for a change and really getting involved with my showers. This was it!!! I have found my love again! So obviously the universe had something to say about it, and it too recently got discontinued. Thats not even the kicker. It got discontinued ONLY IN AUSTRALIA! How is this even possible?

So then I remembered that The Body Shop did a vanilla body wash. It was ok, Not super delicious but eh, worth another shot. So I went in to get some body wash as the bucketload of stuff my mum sent me was running out (which is why I didn't feel the need to stockpile said vanilla body wash, I didn't see the need for 50 bottles of body wash). "Oh, it was discontinued about 6 months ago" was the reply I got when I asked for it. Awesome. So I missed the train with that.

So as you can see, the world, slowly but surely hates me when it comes to vanilla scented delicious anything. So my, now desperate, hunt continues for the perfect vanilla scent (Im still hopeful Impulse will release a "90s nostalgia" collection and bring out Vanilla Kisses one more time). Has anything like this happened to you? A Scent you adore more than life escaped you? Tell me your story or even better tell me what vanilla scents your digging?

Something kinda gross...

So I "routinely" (roughly every 3 months), clean my hair brush. Now when I clean my hairbrush, I not only pull out all the hair but soak it in a basin of warm water and shampoo to try and remove what I can. Today, I cleaned my hair brush but omg not even joking when I say it's time to buy a new hair brush.

I'm guessing there are not a lot of ladies who do a thorough cleaning. Sure you might remove the hair, but do you a deeper cleanse like you would your makeup brushes? Probably not. What you might forget, is about all the nasty skin cells, product and what not that builds up, that doesn't get removed. Also something you may want to think about, with all of those hard to reach places (basically everywhere on your brush around the bristles), are those skin cells building up with the hair oils and the bacteria that would surely be there. It's not nice! It's actually really gross. Especially when you think about people not cleaning their brushes properly, or buying new ones every couple of years.

Here are some *gross* photos to show you. I threw out my hair brush after this, there's no going back to it after this…

Photo 1:After it has been washed, and scraped for 15 mins to try and remove the excess buildup.
Photo 2: The excess gunk after being washed. The whitish specks you see on the bottom half/ left corner are the dead skin cells, oil buildup etc.

So, the lesson here is: go and THOROUGHLY clean your hair brush, and if you've had it longer than a couple of years. I'd probably get a new one.

April haul

Well another month has gone by, and it's mid May, and I'm clearly being slow at getting this post up. Anyways, here's what I bought in April....

Tressemme heat protectant spray
I've used this in the past, and for a quick cheap protectant spray, it's the way to go!

NYX lip liner in Plum (roll up)
I bought this as I don't have a lip pencil in a shade even remotely close (I don't know why, but I'm really into lip pencils atm...), but this formula stinks. I find it just goes everywhere and blends super easy (over my lip line say) and it's just... Not right. I definitely prefer lip liners you can sharpen vs roll up. I won't be buying this style again. It's a shame, coz the colour is awesome.

NYX white cream liner
I bought this after seeing Chloe Morello's tutorial on YouTube (pastel coloured eyeliner). I've only used this as a base but on the use it's had, I do quite like it, although it think it will need a few layers to create the eyeliner look I initially bought this for.

Moroccanoil
I love, love, LOVE this! It's a repurchase and my fave hair product. The smell, omgggg the smell. I wish they'd make this into a fragrance or candle or something!!

Acrylic drawers
Soooo handy! I've started to buy proper storage for my makeup as it's all unruly and everywhere. I'm someone who'd rather spend my money on actual makeup rather than stuff to actually hold it lol. I got these ones off ebay for super cheap. They hold all my liners... Just. ;)
